How this works (and what it isn't)
What this is
A public report card. Every quarter, verified users give the Hon'ble Prime Minister, each Hon'ble Chief Minister and each Union Cabinet minister a grade:
| Grade | Means | Points |
|---|---|---|
| A | Topper | 5 |
| B | Good | 4 |
| C | Average | 3 |
| D | Weak | 2 |
| F | Fail | 1 |
A neta's janta grade comes from the average points: A ≥ 4.5, B ≥ 3.5, C ≥ 2.5, D ≥ 1.5, otherwise F. Approval is the share of A and B grades. A grade only appears once a neta has 25 ratings that quarter, because tiny samples swing wildly.
What it isn't
- Not a scientific survey. People choose to take part, so results reflect our users, who skew young, urban and online. They are not a sample of all Indians.
- Not a prediction of any election.
- Not affiliated with any party, government body or the Election Commission. No party pays us and we run no political ads.
Keeping it fair
- One verified email = one grade per neta per quarter. Email codes make casual fake voting harder, but a determined person can still make many email addresses, so email is weaker than phone verification. We block disposable-mail domains, treat aliases like
name+tag@and Gmail dots as one address, and cap sign-ups per network and browser. We may move to phone verification as the site grows. - Abuse limits. Sign-ups and ratings are limited per network, per browser and, where our host can tell, per country. Clusters of accounts from one network are reviewed by a human and removed if they look coordinated.
- "All raters" vs "residents". CM pages show everyone's grade next to the grade from raters who say they live in that state. When the two differ a lot, outsiders are piling in.
- State can change once a quarter, so people can't hop states to tilt resident numbers.
- Election pauses. While a state is voting, its CM's ratings and results are hidden. During a national election, everything is. We don't publish poll numbers in election periods.
- Rate limits and bot checks on sign-up and rating.
- Fact-checked roster. A neta only appears after an admin checks they currently hold the office. When someone leaves office they get a fresh report card; grades never carry over to a successor.
Privacy
- Your email is never stored. We keep a keyed hash (HMAC-SHA256) so we can recognise you, plus your self-declared state. The email itself only passes through our email provider to deliver your code.
- 48-hour abuse signals. To stop fake accounts we temporarily link your account to daily-changing hashes of your network address, browser type and a browser cookie. These are never raw values, never linked to which grades you gave, and are deleted after 48 hours.
- Grades are deleted on result day. When a quarter closes, all grades become totals per neta (for example "UP CM: 1,204 B grades"), and the individual ratings, the link between you and your opinion, are deleted.
- Your share card is off by default. If you switch it on, it shows your grades and state, never your number.
- Delete anytime from My card. That removes your account and your current-quarter grades immediately.
- Cookies:
rc_skeeps you logged in,rc_vtis a random ID for spam protection and anonymous page counts. No ad trackers. - IP addresses are never stored raw. Rate limiting uses a daily-rotating hash, which is deleted after 24 hours.
